They will be fitted with 11 SOLASAFE roller sunscreens installed on the navigation bridge windows to protect personnel from the sun’s solar heat, glare and UV light, creating an improved working environment in tropical areas and effectively acting as a navigation safety aid.
A further 80 DIMMLITE roller blinds from Solar Solve Marine’s type approved ROLASOLV range will be installed on the windows in the crews’ accommodation and all other areas of each vessel.
As well as offering the same solar protection as SOLASAFE but without the clear vision facility, the DIMMLITE blinds enable rooms to be darkened during the day enabling seafarers to sleep between watches.
John Lightfoot MBE, chairman of the South Shields-based marine equipment manufacturer commented, “The most significant aspect of this order is the 80 roller blinds per vessel that the shipbuilder, Shanghai Waigaoqiao and its variety of shipowner customers have all decided are necessary to improve the environment in which the crew members both work and relax.
“It is an incredible number of accommodation blinds for an oil tanker, from a customer who has been placing similar orders with us for the last 10 years, mainly because the ROLASOLV range of roller blind products is the only one in the world that is type approved for use on board ships,” he said.
