Maersk to rise rates from Asia to US

Maersk has continued its global round of freight rate hikes by boosting levies on its services into the U.S., Journal of Commerce reports. A general rate increase of $400 per 20-foot equivalent unit container will be applied on Far East Asia-to-U.S. West Coast services, starting May 1. A GRI of $500 will be applied to 40-foot containers, rising to $565 and $630 for 40-foot-high cube for 45-foot-high cube boxes, respectively.

At the same time, a sliding scale of GRI will be applied to cargo moving from Far East Asia to the East Coast of the U.S. This will be applied as $560 per TEU, $700 per FEU, $790 per 40-foot-high cube and $885 per 45-foot-high cube container.
