By 2014, it suggested that national container throughput will have risen to 2m teu, rising to 3.5m teu by 2018.
In support of that forecast, $3bn will be spent over the next five years on upgrading eight Peruvian ports.
Those affected will be Paita, Salaverry, Chimbote, Callao, San Juan de Marcona, Ilo, Matarani and the river port of Iquitos.
