Cargo throughput at the Port of Helsinki in the first quarter of 2011 grew 2% compared to January-March 2011, to 2.5 million tons, the Port Authority statistics said.
During the period passenger traffic increased by 5% to 2.1 million people.
In March, shipments of cargo rose 3% to 903,000 tons. Imports totaled 464,000 tons, exports – 438,000 tons. Passenger traffic grew by 12% to 773,000 people.
Port of Helsinki is a premier port of Finland and the largest passenger port, which handles 77 percent of all passenger traffic of the country. Helsinki ranks the third Baltic Sea passenger port . In 2011, the port saw 10 million passengers.
