Vostochny Port first-quarter traffic grows 11.57 percent

Freight traffic passing through the Port Vostochny in January-March 2012 (excluding figures for Kozmino Oil Terminal) increased by 11.57% compared to the first quarter of 2011, to 6.1 million tons, the Port Authority statistics said.


In the first three month, shipments of coal rose 17.1% to 5.1 million tons, oil products volume was slightly up to 185,900 tons and container traffic grew 15% to 90,000 TEUs.


In March, the port handled 2.23 million tons, or 5.1% more than a year earlier (without Kozmino crude exports).


Port Vostochny (East Port) is the year-round navigable and the deepest port of the Russian Far East region. Vostochny Port is located on the coast Japan Sea, 20 km from the terminus of Trans-Siberian Railroad - the city of Nakhodka. Vostochny port is able to accommodate 280-meter long, 40-meter wide vessels with draft up to 15.5 m. The port’s stevedore companies operate16 cargo berths, a few auxiliary berths at the terminals for handling coal, containers, fertilizer, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo. In 2011, cargo throughput at Port Vostochny (excluding Kozmino’s figures) rose to 23.15 million tons from 20.34 million tons a year earlier.
