Ukraine raises grain export forecast
The Ukrainian Agricultural Ministry lifted its grain export forecast Wednesday to 23.5 million tons for the 2011-2012 marketing year from 20 to 21 million tons previously, Xinhua reported.
"Ukraine has already supplied the world market with 16.5 million tons of cereals this agricultural year. We have the ability to export at least another 7 million tons of grain until June 30," Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysyazhnyuk told reporters at a media conference here.
Prysyazhnyuk said Ukraine's grain exports amounted to 2.5 million tons in March, adding that there was a "clear trend" of increased exports.
Ukraine's grain harvest in 2011 was a record 56 million tons, making the country one of the world's top grain producers.
Currently Ukraine is also one of the world's largest cereals exporters, selling to some 50 countries.
