China ports three-month throughput rises 6.5 percent to 2.24 bn tons
Cargo traffic at the ports of China in January-March 2012 increased by 7% compared to the first quarter of 2011 to 2.24 billion tons, the Transportation Ministry of China statistics said.
The three-month traffic volume at the nation’s seaports rose 8.1% to 1.57 billion tons, in river ports – by 3.1% to 661.18 million tons.
In the reporting period, container throughput grew by 8.4% to 39.58 million TEUs. Shipments of containers through the country’s seaports increased by 8.4% to 35.56 mln TEUs, from river ports – by 8.1% to 4.01 million TEUs.
In 2011, total container throughput at the country’s ports amounted to about 9 billion tons.
