New Taman port project to pass next phase in mid-May

The project of a new dry cargo area of deep-water port of Taman (in Krasnodar Territory) will undergo in the middle of May 2012 the environmental impact assessment, Transportation Ministry official said at a briefing on Tuesday.

By September 2012 the project will be submitted for approval to Glavgosexpertiza.

"Now we are creating a management company for this project and proceed to the repurchase of land," PortNews correspondent quoted Deputy Transport Minister Victor Olersky as saying.

Upon completion of the approval phase, the customer of this project FGI Rostransmodernizatsiya will select an investor during an open biding for lease agreement for future stevedoring operations at the port.

"Simultaneously, we will hold tenders for contracts for the construction of federal or non-federal facilities there," the official said.

The sea port of Taman will be built on the Taman Peninsula (Krasnodar Territory) on the basis of public-private partnership (PPP). The port will be integrated into the international transport corridor "North-South." The port construction is funded through the federal target program (FTP) "Development of the Transport System of the Russian Federation for the 2010-2015 period."

The project includes the creation of the following facilities:
•    marine container terminals;
•    terminals for handling coal, grain, iron ore concentrate, mineral fertilizer,
•    shipping approach channel, offshore breakwater and dam structures, piers for cargo handling facilities and port fleet,
•    railway, road and engineering infrastructure facilities.

The projected traffic volume at the port of Taman in 2020 may reach 93.8 million tons of cargo. The port design is scheduled for completion in 2012. The construction of the port project first phase is scheduled for 2013-2016.
