The container terminal AS Muuga CT plans to increase its container throughput in 2012 by more than 1.7 times from a year earlier, to 340,000 TEUs, the terminal owner said at the TransRussia Expo, PortNews correspondent reports.
According to the Transiidikeskuse AS Board Chairman Erik Laidvee, the growth is largely associated with the launch of the so called block trains. Currently, the terminal transships about 22-23% of all containers to the unit trains. The terminal is located 400 meters from the huge railway junction, where the container handling is 25-30 units / hour.
The unit train hauls containers from the terminal to Moscow and one more container train is expected to be launched this year to transport the cargo to the Moscow region.
