Jumbo discharges 1000t autoclaves in shallow port
In April 2012 Jumbo’s Fairpartner successfully discharged two autoclaves in Taganito on Mindanao Island, the Philippines. The port is subject to challenging conditions such as unpredictable weather and swell plus a waterdepth of just 7.25m. Jumbo arranged a stowplan and discharge rotation that made unloading in this shallow port possible, the shipping company press release said.
Shipping
One of the main conditions of the job was a shipping window of only 5 days in which Jumbo’s Fairpartner needed to be present for loading. Careful planning made the vessel ready to receive the autoclaves 1 day prior to the start of the agreed shipping window. The time restriction was needed because of a challenging load out which included a floating crane, a barge and the Fairpartner. The floating crane was used to load the autoclaves from the manufacturer’s premises on the barge.
Loading
Due to the weight of the autoclaves and the stability of the barge each autoclave was positioned in the centre of the barge. The Fairpartner was therefore required to give a minimum of 12.0m outreach. This was no problem for Fairpartners 900t mastcranes used in tandem. After loading both autoclaves they where stowed and secured safely on deck.
Discharge
When arriving in Taganito the vessel was well capable to cope with the draft limitation. Despite a full load under deck including 2 1200t absorbers loaded in Masan, Korea destined for Henderson, Australia. The whole discharging operation was executed as planned and took less than 1.5h per autoclave.
After discharging the Fairpartner proceeded to Zhangzhou and Nantong, China to complete her stowage with a reclaimer for Port Hedland and a shiploader for Geraldton, Australia.
Long term business partners
Transporting key plant components and dealing with a short shipping window, a shallow draft and a small port, a reliable and experienced partner is needed. Jumbo Shipping received the booking from long term business partner JGC. They experienced Jumbo’s shipment as a job well done.
Jumbo is market leader in the transport of oversized and heavyweight cargo. Jumbo currently owns and operates a fleet of 12 dedicated Heavy Lift Vessels (two of which have DP2: Jumbo Javelin and Fairplayer), with lifting capacities of up to 1,800 tonnes. These DP2-vessels are used for the installation of subsea structures and mooring systems for floating production systems. Fairplayer’s 900 t mast cranes are able to lift large and heavy structures from deck and place them on the seabed without the need for subsea transfer. Typical weight and depth ranges are: 1,000 t at 1,000 m, 600 t at 1,700 m and 200 t at 3,000 m.
