APL suspends acceptance of cargo to / from Aden
Singapore-based ocean carrier APL temporarily suspended “acceptance of shipments” to and from the Port of Aden, Yemen, the Journal of Commerce reports.
The move comes after a three-week strike by dockworkers severely disrupted operations at the Aden Container Terminal, operated by DP World.
APL, the container shipping unit of Neptune Orient Liens, last week imposed port congestion surcharges on all cargo from Asia and the Middle East to Aden.
Meanwhile, reports from Yemen said dockworkers called off their industrial action Thursday after port and government authorities agreed to resume negotiations on a new wage structure. The strikers were demanding wages and benefits at a par with other DP World terminals in the region.
