Guizhou province to complete express transport network by 2015
Southwestern Guizhou province plans to build a series of express railways and expressways to form a fast transport network linking directly to neighbouring provinces in the next four years, Xinhua reports.
Like neighbouring Hunan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangxi and Yunnan provinces, Guizhou is a transport junction of hinterland connecting to South China and East China. The province will build over 1,600 kilometres of railway, more than 3,000 kilometres of expressways and five airports by 2015.
The Guiyang to Guangzhou railway will be ready for service in 2014 and Changsha-Guiyang-Kunming railway will open in 2015. In addition, the Guizhou rail link will start construction of Chongqing to Guiyang express railway this year. Another one from Chengdu to Guiyang is being designed and its feasibility in being assessed.
When all the new projects are completed, it will only take two hours from Guiyang to Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming and Changsha and three hours to Guangzhou, six hours to Shanghai, and seven hours to Beijing.
