Port of Helsinki throughput flat in Jan-Apr, at 3.3 mln tons
Freight traffic passing through the Port of Helsinki in January-April 2012 did not change compared to 2011’s figures, reaching 3.3 million tons, the Port Authority said.
The four-month volume of imports climbed 2% to 1.7 million tons, exports - by 3% to 1.6 million tons. Passenger traffic for the period increased by 6% to 2.9 million people.
In April, shipments of cargo through the port decreased by 8% to 833,000 tons. Imports remained flat on the 2011 year’s numbers, at 451,000 tons, exports fell 15% to 382,000 tons. The volume of passenger traffic grew by 8% to 854,000 people.
Port of Helsinki is a premier port of Finland and the largest passenger port, which handles 77 percent of all passenger traffic of the country. Helsinki ranks the third Baltic Sea passenger port. In 2011, the port saw 10 million passengers.
