DSME begins construction of huge 18,000teu boxship for Maersk
Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME, South Korea) has commenced the construction of the world's largest container vessel with
a capacity of 18,000 TEUs, the South Korean media reports. The mega boxship is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2013. The current newbuilds orderbook of DSME is 20 container ships for Maersk valued at US $3.6 billion.
The new vessels of Triple-E class will have the length of 400 m, breadth - 59 m, height - 73 pm. This will become the largest ship in the world, her projected capacity is 16% greater than that of the largest container ship to date.
