Yeysk authorities concerned over green protests against oil terminals
Yeysk District Administration has expressed its concern about the situation unfolding around the oil terminals at the port of Yeysk, a local green group said recently citing deputy head of the administration Vitaly Ziva.
A protest rally against the operation of Yeysk port-based oil terminals co-organized by the Environmental Watch on North Caucasus was held on May 26, 2012. Yeysk Mayor Valery Kulkov suggested that protesters elaborate jointly with authorities new effective solutions for environment protection, adding that if there is a need to close the oil terminal, it should be done under existing legislation.
The protesters have collected 857 signatures against the terminals and construction of cargo ferry. The oil terminals are owned by two companies TTDH and Yeysk Port-Vista.
The Yeysk Port-Vista handles at the terminals river boats and sea-going ships of capacity of 5,000 tons and draft 4.2 meters. According to the port statistics, in the first quarter only the facilities have transshipped some 30,000 tons of export oil products.
