Iran Shipping Line adds three new ships

Three new ships have recently joined the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line (IRISL). According to Iran Daily, they include a 76,000-ton Panamax vessel, a 53,000-ton Indian Max vessel and a 1,100-TEU container carrier which were added to the shipping fleet during a ceremony attended by IRISL officials and Iran's Consulate-General in Shanghai, China. The Panamax vessel is with a length of 225 meters and width of 32.26 meters, while the India Max vessel has 190 meters length and 32.26 meters width.
With addition of these two vessels to the shipping fleet, the number of IRISL bulk carriers would reach 54--with a total capacity of 2.7 mln tons.
Shipments by IRISL have significantly increased in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea, IRISL chairman said.
Mohammad Hossein Dajmar was quoted by the Persian daily 'Iran' as saying that due to the current regional status quo as well as reluctance of foreign shipping lines to ply in these waters, the role of Iran's top shipping company has increased significantly in southern waters.
Turning to the problems facing transit of goods via northern waters, the official noted that the condition is different in the Caspian Sea. "The fleet operated by Khazar Sea Shipping Lines, a member of IRISL group, is unable to compete with foreign companies in the Caspian Sea."
