Two cargo ships collide in Dardanelles Strait

Two cargo ships collided in the Dardanelles Strait late on Tuesday, Itar-Tass reports. No crewmembers were injured.

The Anatolian news agency reported on Wednesday, the Danapris-2 dry cargo ship flying Ukraine’s flag moved from Russia to Italy with sunflower seeds to collide with the Emerald-1 vessel flying Panama’s flag not far from Bozcaada Island, about 12 miles off the western coast of Turkey just south of the Dardanelles.

No information about the reasons for the incident has been reported. Coast guard motor boats arrived to the scene of the incident. The ships were tugged to a safe area not to block traffic and anchored. The crews of Danapris-2 and Emerald-1 include twelve and eight members respectively.

The investigation is underway.
