Mexican terminal tender cancelled

API Tuxpan, the administrator of Mexico's Veracruz state Tuxpan port, has decided to cancel a US$180 million tender to build and operate a general cargo and container terminal scheduled to be awarded in March 2009, Business News Americas reported.
The decision was based on objections by various bidders who pointed to the fact that only the waterfront was being tendered, as adjacent storage patios and facilities are already owned by company Riberas de Pantepec, property of port operator SSA México and international freight services firm Braniff.
This, bidders argued, would create unfair competition among service providers operating at the port, in addition to blocking the entrance of new companies to the facility.
