Cargo turnover at Riga Freeport up 13.9% in Jan-Nov 08

 

In the first 11 months of 2008, 26.886 million tons of cargo were handled at Riga Freeport, which is a 13.9% increase on the results of the respective period of 2007, as the port's strategic planning and project management department informed BC.

The largest turnover increase was observed regarding the bulk cargo, the amount of which surged by 26.6%, reaching 17.543 million tons.

Turnover of general cargo decreased by 13.8%, dropping to 4.497 million tons, whereas the volume of liquid cargo handled at the Port of Riga, reached 4.84 million tons, registering 6.8% increase on the results of the last year.

Riga Free Port also provided services to 465,876 passengers, 93,423 of which were passengers of cruise liners.

The number of cruise ships' passengers served this year was 27% lower than in 2007, but the total number passengers at Riga Port grew 12%, compared with the first 11 months of last year.
