Russia to slash export duty on oil

The export duty on oil could be set at $117-$119 per tonne in Russia starting January 1, 2009, head of the Russian Finance Ministry's customs payments department Alexander Sakovich told RBC. According to him, this rate of duty will be fixed if the average Urals crude oil price amounts to $43.5-$44 per barrel for the period from November 15 to December 14. In this case, the duty on light refined oil products will be set at $91-$93 per tonne, and on heavy oil products $49-$50 per tonne.

The current export duty of $192.1 per tonne of crude oil became effective in Russia from December 1, 2008, with the respective duties on light and heavy oil products at $141.8 and $76.4 per tonne.
