In January-September 2008, the port of Poti (Georgia) handled 6.032 million tonnes of cargo (+4%, year-on-year), Interfax learnt from Poti Sea Port according to Gudok.
In the reported period, transshipment of loose dry cargo climbed by 18.1% to 2.675 million tonnes, general cargo – by 6.8% to 2.615 million tonnes. Transshipment of crude, oil products and other liquid cargo fell by 31.8% to 741,000 tonnes.
In the 9-month period the port handled 154,381 TEU (+12.7%, year-on-year).
Poti Sea Port LLC is 100% owned by investment group RAK Investment Authority of the United Arab Emirates. The Arab company also purchased over 3 million square meters of land adjacent to Poti in order to build a new port and to create a free industrial zone.
