Hanjin Shipping signs 30-year lease agreement with JAXPORT

Hanjin Shipping has signed a thirty-year lease agreement with JAXPORT (Jacksonville Port). Scheduled to open in 2011, Hanjin Shipping's Jacksonville Container Terminal will have an annual capacity of approximately 800,000 TEU.
G S Choi, senior vice president & managing director of Hanjin Shipping's Terminal division, said: "The introduction of our dedicated terminal in Jacksonville will ensure constant availability of berths for our All Water East Coast (AWE) services, upgrade customer service with improved schedules."
He added that, being Hanjin Shipping's first dedicated terminal on the US East Coast, the terminal will establish itself as a logistics hub for the newly emerging market in the Northern Florida and Caribbean Sea areas.
"It will also allow us to absorb the demand to come in the US East Coast after the expansion of the Panama Canal in 2015," he said.
Hanjin signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with JAXPORT back in October 2007, and has signed MOUs on developing dedicated terminals in logistics hubs around the world, including Tan Cang-Cai Mepin Vietnam and Algeciras in Spain.
Hanjin Shipping currently operates twelve dedicated terminals worldwide - four domestic and eight overseas.
