New VCS equipment put into operation

Container loaders delivered from China to Vladivostok Commercial Seaport (VCS) in the end of February were put into operation on December 10. An annual VCS partners’ meeting was timed to this event, PrimaMedia correspondent reports. Four loaders (hoisting capacity of two of them is 50 tons, and of the other two – 45 tons) were delivered by “Jinhua 18” ship in the end of September. A unique installation operation was conducted. On December 10 the loaders were put into operation in the presence of the seaport guests and partners. New equipment will increase seaport capacity by 100,000 containers (TEU), up to 400,000 TEU. According to VCS Technology Director German SAMODUROV, the seaport is now equipped with the most up-to-date technology in the Far East. Total cost of VCS container terminal reequipment and modernization is about 400 million rubles. The new equipment should pay off within five or six months, German SAMODUROV said. “The economic crisis will hardly influence container traffic volume, especially refrigerator container traffic volume,” he said.
