Throughput of Klaipeda port up 11% to 27.6 mln t in Jan-Nov 08

In January-November 2008, the port of Klaipeda handled 27.67 million tonnes of cargo (+11.1%, year-on-year), the port states.

In the reported period the port handled 10.017 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+21.6%, year-on-year) including 8.5 million tonnes of oil products (+29%). Transshipment of general cargo grew by 0.3% to 8.628 million tonnes, loose and bulk dry cargo – by 12% to 9.026 million tonnes, containerized cargo – by 19.7% to 3.27 million tonnes. The port’s container throughput totaled 346,067 TEU (+18.5). Transshipment of ro-ro cargo fell by 6.8% to 188,616 units.

In Butinge terminal during January-November 2008, 8.27 million tonnes of crude oil was handled  (the total stevedoring volume increased by more than two times).

Klaipeda State Seaport is the northernmost ice-free port on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea.

19 big stevedoring companies, ship - repair and ship – building yards operate within the port and all marine business and cargo handling services are being rendered. The annual port cargo handling capacity is up to 40 million tons. The port can accept large-tonnage vessels: dry-cargo vessels up to 70,000 DWT, and tankers up to 100,000 DWT.
