The port of Aktau handles 9.8 mln t in Jan-Nov 08

In January-November 2008, the international seaport of Aktau (Kazakhstan) handled 9.883 million tonnes of cargo, the port informs. Transshipment of oil and oil products totaled 7.958 million tonnes including 938,422.5 tonnes of oil handled in November.

In the reported period transshipment of dry cargo amounted to 1.707.3 million tonnes (+24%, year-on-year) including 1.398.2 million tonnes of metal, 219,500 tonnes of grain, 89,590 tonnes of other cargo.

In the 11-month period, the ferries carried 217,716 tonnes of cargo.

The port of Aktau is located at the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. It is the only seaport of Kazakhstan to serve international transportation of dry cargo, oil and oil products.
