SOCAR to make 85% of gas sale in Georgia by the end of 2010

"The Memorandum signed on Georgia’s gas supply covers five years.
A contract is being prepared basing on the Memorandum. With this we will solve Georgia’s gas supply issue within five years," president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev said, APA reports. Abdullayev said that under the order of the Georgian President, 29 gas sale networks had been given to SOCAR and underlined that they were planning to make 85% of gas sale in Georgia by the end of 2010.
"According to the agreement, Azerbaijan will export 452 million cu.m. gas to Georgia in 2009. Export of extra gas will depend on the volume. Extra gas will be exported to Georgia, if our reserves will afford. Extra gas will be sold to Georgia under commercial terms," he said.
SOCAR president said Azerbaijan was exporting gas from Shah Deniz to Turkey and Georgia and added that Turkey sold a part of that gas to Greece. Rovnag Abdullayev said Azerbaijan also planned to sell gas to big European countries and underlined that work was being done for it along with transit countries.
"Work is being done to sell gas to Europe and other markets. We are trying to sell gas for higher price. But it is impossible to specify the figure, as the price of the gas to be sold to various markets will be different," he said.
