Throughput of Latvian ports up 1.9% to 57.8 mln t in Jan-Nov 08

In January-November 2008, the ports of Latvia handled 57.88 million tonnes of cargo (1.9%, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports.

In the reported period, transshipment of loose cargo grew by 15.7% to 27.448 million tonnes including 16.498 million tonnes of coal (+26.5%), 4.268 million tonnes of chemical cargo (-8%), 1.336 million tonnes of woodchips (-12.5%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 21.835 million tonnes (-6.7%) including 18.821 million tonnes of oil products (-7%) and 1.633 million tonnes of crude (-22.3%).

Transshipment of general cargo totaled 8.596 million tonnes (-11%) including 3.461 million tonnes of timber (-23%) and 1.938 million tonnes of containerized cargo (+0.2%).

The port of Riga handled 26.882 million tonnes of cargo (+13.9%), Ventspils – 25.884 million tonnes (-8.3%), Liepaja – 3.901 million tonnes (+6.2%).

In 2007, the ports of Latvia handled 62.434 million tonnes of cargo.
