Commercial Port of Vladivostok (CPV OJSC) plans to build South Primorje Terminal in the nearest future. The project of a terminal to be built at the crossing of railways and highways from eastern Russia and China was presented by Dmitri Domracheev, Commercial Director of CPV, at the exhibition “Siberian Logistics 2008: Interaction and Cooperation between Transport and Industrial Enterprises” held in Novosibirsk within the framework of the 3rd International Transport & Logistics Conference ProLOG-SIBERIA-2008, ChinaPRO reports.
The dry-port project is under development today, Mr. Domrachev said. The project as a part of the Development Strategy till 2015 aimed at improvement of ports’ capacity and development of logistics potential in Siberia and the Far East envisages construction of a large railway station jointly with Russian Railways OJSC. The project implementation has been suspended. According to the schedule the project is to be implemented by 2012. Design capacity – 1.7 mln TEU per year.
According to Dmitri Baranov, leading expert of Finam Management, both Russia and China are interested in implementation of this project. The expert says construction of the dry port will make it possible to increase cargo turnover between the two countries by 2-4%. The terminal can be also used for arrangement of transcontinental route Pacific Ocean – Europe being in plans of Russian Railways. Finam states cargo turnover between China and Russia totaled some 400,000 TEU in the 9-month period of 2008.
