Chinese orders for Severodvinsk shipyard

The Zvezdochka shipyard in Seveodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, hopes for an extended industrial cooperation with Chinese military authorities. Last week, the company director accompanied Russian Minister of Defence Anatoly Serdyukov to the great eastern power.
Company director Vladimir Nikitin last week visited China together with Defence Minister Serdyukov and participated in a session in the joint Russian-Chinese Commission on military-technical cooperation, newspaper Korabelnaya Storona reports.

Mr. Nikitin now believes “Zvezdochka” has good chances for a stepped up industrial cooperation with China. –We already have contracts with China on technical assistance, on production deliveries. Now [however] we are talking about perspectives for an extended cooperation between companies from our countries with regard to repair of destroyers, the company director says.

He maintains that Zvezdochka has experiences from repair of the Russian destroyer “Besstrashny” – a vessel which is similar to several Chinese destroyers.

The Zvezdochka is one of Russia’s biggest shipyards with 10,000 employees. The yard, specialised within the field of nuclear suhmarine repair, also has three units in Murmansk Oblast.
