HPH's Zhuhai box port Phase II trial operations start

TRIAL operations have commenced at Phase II of Zhuhai International Container Terminals (Gaolan), or ZICT(G), across the line from Macau, with the docking of the 6,350-TEU APL New Jersey.
"Hutchison Port Holdings has been investing in Zhuhai Port for over 15 years. From the opening of our joint-venture terminals in Jiuzhou and Gaolan Phase I, to the construction of these two 50,000-tonne container berths and the upcoming development of four 100,000-tonne container berths, HPH continues to develop Zhuhai Port into a leading international container shipping hub in South China," said James Tsien, group executive director of Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), at the terminal's inaugural ceremony attended by 300 guests.
ZICT(G) Phase II, which comprises two container berths, has a total quay length of 824 metres and a depth alongside of 15.8 metres. Covering an area of 56 hectares, ZICT(G) Phase II will be equipped with eight super-post-Panamax quay cranes and 24 electrified rubber-tyre gantry cranes. The facility is expected to become fully operational in August 2009, a HPH statement said.
