APL adds Miami, subtracts Port Everglades on Central America run

CONTAINER carrier APL has announced its twice-weekly Central America Express (CAX) and its CX2 will add the Port of Miami and subtract Port Everglades from January 6.
This will link Miami to Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador and with APL's major European and Latin American trade routes.
Latin America APL vice president Carlos Velez said Miami calls will enable shippers on the CAX to connect to APL's Atlantic Pacific Express and Atlantic North service for shipments to and from Europe and to use Miami to link with APL's New York Express for other major ports in Latin America, as well as Asia.
Superior cargo handling was available in Miami, he said in a report in Newark's Journal of Commerce, adding that Miami had new automated 16-lane gate to speed up truck traffic. He also believed that the truck turn-around time of 30 minutes was the best among US ports.
