The Japanese government asks Russia to reconsider the decision to raise import duties on automobiles from January and has already made its views known to Moscow, a spokesman for Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
The diplomat has said in Japan’s view Russia’s measures being taken now do nothing to contribute to the construction of the free trade system. He said prior to Russia’s making this decision Japan had asked the Russian government committee dealing with the matter not to raise import duties.
The Japanese government thinks enforcing such measures is not the best way, as advance towards protectionism conflicts with Russia’s striving to accede to the World Trade Organization, the spokesman said.
