Measures supporting sea and river ports to be developed by the end of this year, TASS cites Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov as saying at the meeting of the Maritime Board under the Russian Government, according to Gudok.
Ivanov underlined that a number of Russian ports having borrowed money for implementation of their development programs are in a difficult situation today. River vessels require special support as the navigation is over and they are not to get any profit in winter, the Prime Minister said.
"We require measures which would not only protect ports from bankruptcy but also support the growth of cargo turnover."
Sergei Ivanov also reminded a number of sea and river ports have been recently included in the list of strategic enterprises.
