THE 13,800-MSC Daniela's now reckoned to be the biggest ship afloat classed by Germanisher Lloyd was recently delivered to the Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Company, the world's second largest container line after Maersk.
Its high-tensile steel construction from Samsung Heavy Shipyard also sets the ship apart because it allows the hull to maintain rigid, decreasing the risk of bending.
The vessel also features a deckhouse far removed from the engine room, which allows greater visibility from the bridge and creates increased container volume and a reduced need for ballast water.
