Sovcomflot says ex-manager sentence too harsh
Sovcomflot, SCF Group believes that the ruling handed down by the Dorogomilovsky court of Moscow over embezzlement case, sentencing SCF Group’s former top manager Yuri Privalov to four and a half years in prison is too excessive, Sovcomflot said in a statement.
For a long time, Yuri Privalov was fully cooperating with the Investigative Committee of Russia in the embezzlement case and assisted in recovering the damages to Sovcomflot in a London court. In particular thanks to his testimony in court and out of court the company had already been reimbursed more than $ 150 million of the embezzled funds, the statement said.
"The verdict given to Yuri Privalov turned out to be harsher than we expected. Of course, we are the injured party, but we stuck to the principle of humane justice. Taking into account Yury Privalov cooperation with the investigators, that he has pleaded guilty, that he has a young child and elderly parents, his illness and the fact that he has already served two years in prison during the investigation, we believe that Mr. Privalov certainly deserves to be punished, but not associated with imprisonment sentence,” the company said.
