Bengal Tiger Line to launch Asia Service from Krishnapatnam
Singapore-based Bengal Tiger Line will launch an intra-Asia service in mid-September from India's Port of Krishnapatnam, a new privately owned cargo hub on the east coast, Daily Shipping Times reports.
The regional container carrier will deploy the 2,741-TEU Cape Magnus, starting Sept. 20, on the following rotation: Singapore, Port Kelang, Chennai, Krishnapatnam, Port Kelang and Singapore.
The maiden call at Krishnapatnam is currently scheduled for September 28, 2012.
Krishnapatnam port, about 112 miles north of Chennai, began container-handling operations in September last year. The container terminal offers 2,130 feet of berth, a 44-foot draft, 4,000 ground slots and an annual capacity of 1.2 million 20-foot-equivalent units.
Port developer Hyderabad-based Navayuga Group recently took delivery of five super-post-Panamax quay cranes, which have a lifting capacity of 65 tons each and can reach across 23 rows of containers.
