FE Railroad says unable to boost capacity to 31 mln tons in 3 years

With the current investments in expansion of Primorsky Territory off-dock railyards, access railways to seaports the Far Eastern Railroad (DVZD, a branch of RZD) will have to cancel contracts for transportation of 31 million tons of freight by 2015, 37 mln – in 2020, the DVZD official said.

Vitaly Zelenko, head of traffic management department of DVZD, who attended a meeting of the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport, held today in Vladivostok, said the development of infrastructure is constrained by the Ussuriysk - Nakhodka section and a section in Khasansky district.

According to the general plan of development of Russian Railways, the company forecasts a surge in the volume of freight due to the ports of the Far East, especially on the Trans-Siberian Railroad and on the access railways to the ports of Primorsky Territory.

"By 2015, the growth will be about 1.7 times, and in 2020 - 1.8 times, or an increase of 43.5 million tons a year," said Zelenko.
