Dutch group presents US$2.37bn Espírito Santo port construction plan to Antaq
A Dutch committee led by Rotterdam's port authority has presented a plan of some 4.8bn reais (US$2.37bn) to Brazil's national waterway regulator Antaq, aimed at building a port terminal in the southeastern state of Espírito Santo, Business News Americas reports.
The project, called Porto Central, involves implementing a private use terminal in the town of Presidente Kennedy, situated 159km south of state capital Vitória. The port authority has partnered up with TPK Logística which is set to be the terminal operator, according to an Antaq release.
Porto Central is strategically located to be connected to the major oil and gas fields in the southeastern states of Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, according to Rotterdam port official Peter Lugthart.
With a 6,800ha industrial complex, the port will help facilitate the handling of freight such as liquid bulk, solid bulk, agriculture, offshore supplies, mining and general cargo, the release said.
The port site is already linked via paved roads to Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais, including connections to federal highways BR-101 and BR-262.
Future plans also include possible connections to upcoming state highway ES-297 as well as railways Litorânea Sul of local mining giant Vale (NYSE: VALE), EF-354 of federal rail company Valec and MRS Logística operated stretches.
Construction of the port should be completed by 2015, the release said.
