Brazil to launch tender for new port

Brazil's national waterway regulator Antaq will launch a US$223 million tender this year to build and operate a new port in Amazonas state capital Manaus, Brazil's ports department SEP said, reported Business News Americas.

The company hired to develop the port will be awarded a 25-year concession, renewable for an additional 25 years. The port, known as Humberto Medina de Brasília, will be built in the area formerly occupied by Amazonas state steel company Siderama.

The port will be for public use, mainly serving the region's industrial pole. Operations are slated to start mid-2014 and container capacity is expected to be 665,000 TEUs annually.
