New container service within Rotterdam port area
Under the name ‘The Sustainable Corridor’, Pernis Combi Terminal (PCT), Kamps Transport and Customs Solutions & Improvements (CSI) launched a new inland shipping service within the port area. Neele Logistics in Pernis is the first customer, Port of Rotterdam news release said.
The group focuses on the transport of containers by barge, including dealing with Customs formalities, between the Maasvlakte and Pernis. In time, they expect to transport between 50 and 100 containers a day. The consortium wants to do that for ‘road prices’: roughly one euro per kilometre on a one-way basis is the ceiling, but this includes dealing with Customs formalities.
According to them, the latter differentiates them from comparable initiatives, such as that of the Waalhaven Group (Cool Barge) and of the Mercurius Shipping Group,
Thanks to the cooperation with container transport company Kamps Transport, the trio can also handle transport to and from PCT. The Pernis Combi Terminal, which covers about 5 hectares, is located in the 2nd Petroleumhaven in the Botlek and already processes around 120,000 units a year.
