Neva-Metal’s cargo volumes grow 19 percent
Cargo handling at St. Petersburg-based CJSC Neva-Metal terminal in January-September 2012 rose 19% year-on-year, to more than 2 million tons, driven primarily by general cargo shipments (break-bulk), compared to the same period a year before, the Severstal’s stevedore company said.
The nine-month volume of general cargoes handled by Neva-Metal totaled about 188,000 tons, which accounted for 9% of overall cargo volumes, versus 70,000 tons (4%) a year earlier.
In January-September, shipments of ferrous metal of Severstal’s Cherepovets MP totaled 1.3 million tons.
Export of grab and suction bulk cargo reached about 78,000 tons (some 4% of total freight traffic). Containerized cargoes accounted for 20% of cargo throughput, or more than 30,000 TEUs.
"The growth is attributed to the expansion of loads volume, in particular by attracting new cargoes (chemical products, cement), thanks to perfect port infrastructure and favorable weather conditions," said Neva-Metal CEO Mikhail Panov.
Container traffic for the period exceeded 23,000 units (more than 34,000 TEUs), which accounts for 24% of the total cargo volume.
The volume of bulk and suction cargo was some 80,000 tons (4%).
