Russia holds EEDI, SEEMP seminar
RS said the event was jointly organised with Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy, and American Bureau of Shipping. The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) said Wednesday that it conducted a seminar for ship owners, design bureaus, and shipyards on implementing Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), Ship & Bunker reports.
RS said the event was jointly organised with Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy, and American Bureau of Shipping.
Presentations made included detailed analysis of the methods to calculate the achieved positive EEDI, factors in the development of SEEMP, and the provisions of current Russian law on energy saving and increasing energy efficiency.
EEDI will apply to ship orders placed on or after January 1, 2013 and to ships delivered after January 1, 2015, and will require 10% greater efficiency for ships delivered between 2015 and 2019, 20% between 2020 and 2024, and 30% from 2025 onwards.
European politicians recently said that EEDI will not be enough to ensure shipping emissions are reduced fast enough.
