Missing cargo ship had 700 tons of gold ore on board
The dry bulk carrier Amurskaya (homeport - Nikolaevsk-on-Amur) that has disappeared in the Sea of Okhotsk off Shantarsky Islands was carrying 700 tons of gold ore, the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor's Office said.
The local Prosecutor's Office for transport verifies compliance with safety regulations. The Far Eastern regional office of the Investigative Committee is conducting investigation into the case to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
On October 28, the M/V Amurskaya, a bulk carrier issued a distress call in the area of Shantarsky islands in the Khabarovsk region. An emergency beacon of the vessel is sending signals of distress. A search operation is conducted in the area, but no signs of the vessel have been found so far. Nine or eight crew members were believed to be on board the stricken ship.
