Barge and dredger collision on the Volga
A barge rammed into the cutter suction dredger on the 1280th km of the Volga River. According to the State Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (SMRCC) of Russia’s Ministry of Transportation, the incident occurred on October 28
The barge hit the dredger, when the M/V Akademik Karpinsky towing a barge No 7701 (shipowner – Plot Ltd., Naberezhnye Chelny) was approaching for the loading to the CSD Ezhektorny-3 (shipowner – Kazan-based LLC Kama River Company). The barge was damaged in the bow on the starboard above the waterline, the dredger hull and handrails were also damaged, its anchor rope torn. There were no leakage and oil spill reported.
