The icebreaker Krasin owned by Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) on November 7, 2012 passed Cape Dezhnev and completed its 177-day navigational season and assistance to transportation of goods to the Arctic from the east, the Group press release said.
The last cargo ship escorted by the Krasin through the Arctic was the M/V Captain Starostin, which completed the loading / unloading at the port of Pevek on November 5.
During the season the icebreaker was assisting 18 cargo ships that made 36 sailings and delivered to Russian Chukotka and transported from the ports of the eastern Arctic 140,500 tons of cargoes, including 36,400 tons of solid fuel, 11,700 tons of liquid fuel and 92,400 tons of other goods. Besides, the icebreaker provided icebreaking service to two research vessels.
The FESCO Group’s ships, the M/V Vasily Burkhanov and the M/V Captain Sergius, transported 9,900 tons of cargo. The Company said that this year the weather and ice conditions in the eastern Arctic region were favorable for shipping.
The icebreaker Krasin is expected to be at home port of Vladivostok on November 17. On November 26 the vessel will be turned over in time charter to Exxon Neftegas Limited and will be assisting large tankers, jointly with another FESCO’s icebreaker Admiral Makarov, sailing to / from the port De-Kastri.
