U.S. oil and gas corporation ExxonMobil has offered Russian oil major Lukoil to explore the feasibility of entering the West Qurna-1 project in Iraq, Lukoil spokesman Dmitry Dolgov said today.
The oil major already holds a 75% stake in the West Qurna-2 project, and is seen as a potential buyer of ExxonMobil's stake in the project alongside Gazprom Neft and Rosneft. The latter two declined to comment on their eventual involvement in the project.
According to earlier reports, ExxonMobil is already in negotiations with other international oil majors to sell its stake in West Qurna-1.
