The Russian Ministry of the East Development has submitted to Vnesheconombank for consideration a list of priority projects for the country’s Far Eastern Federal District. The proposed projects are supposed to be implemented through the "Fund for the Far East and the Baikal Region," the ministry press office said.
The list includes more than 90 projects. The projects are primarily aimed at the country’s transport infrastructure development. Of them, five projects – includes the renovation and overhaul of the Baykal-Amur Railroad and the Trans-Siberian Railroad, the connection of Korean line to Russia’s railways network, the construction of a bridge from the mainland to the island of Sakhalin, as well as the development of airports in the Far East.
According to the Minister of the Development of the Far East, the Plenipotentiary of the Russian President in the Far Eastern Federal District Viktor Ishayev, the development of the rail network will boost the development of the territory, increase the efficiency of the transit potential of the region, and to create the world's shortest transit corridor Asia –Europe-Sakhalin. The connection with the mainland will strengthen the geopolitical position of Russia in the Far East.
The projects also mean the construction (through the Fund) of more railway lines in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and to develop the regional aviation.
The Ministry plans for the Kamchatka region, in the framework of the Northern Sea Route, the creation of a port hub in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
In Primorsky Territory - the creation of specialized transshipment facilities, and the construction near Vostochny Port of an off-dock container terminal and a logistic center of capacity of 1.2 million containers a year.
In addition, one project involves the construction of the Vladivostok - Nakhodka – Vostochny Port highway.
The projects list for Khabarovsk Territory includes: the third phase of the reconstruction of the bridge over the Amur River near Khabarovsk (to build two traffic lanes in each direction), the construction of the port complex - Novaya Sovetskaya Gavan (includes the construction of a grain terminal with a silo, the fish processing plant with a reefer terminal), the construction of a grain terminal on the Cape of Muravyov, a marine terminal for transshipment of iron ore concentrates in Sovetskaya Gavan, the railway Sovetskaya Gavan - Cape of Muravyov, the road Selikhino - Gursky - Kenada - Vanino.
There is also a number of other projects prepared for the region.
