Keppel clinches $420m twin rig order
Singapore's Keppel FELS clinched a $420m contract to build two jackup rigs for Mexico's national oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Seatrade Asia online reports.
The two units are slated for delivery in the first quarter of 2015. The rigs are capable of operating in water depths of up to 400 feet and drilling to depths of 30,000 feet.
“We are seeing more enquiries from Mexico for new rigs and we believe our KFELS B Class jackup design is well suited to meet the requirements of the Mexican market,” said Wong Kok Seng, managing director (offshore) of Keppel Offshore & Marine and managing director of Keppel FELS.
Pemex estimated that they will invest up to $2.4bn in 2012 in exploration, and expect to have 40 rigs eventually operating in Mexican waters.
