Pelindo III, the Indonesian state-owned port operator that runs around 40 ports in seven provinces in Java, Kalimantan, Nusa Tenggara and Bali, is ramping up construction on the IDR3.4trn ($353.6m) Teluk Lamong multipurpose terminal project as the nearby East Java hub of Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya has been running beyond capacity for more than a year, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The operator is confident of starting operations by April 2014, according to local reports. Pelindo III spokesman Edi Priyanto was quoted as saying that the international dockyard has been completed while work is now taking place on the domestic dockyard, causeway, container yard and connecting bridge.
Construction of the dockyard has begun while the bridge and causeway are respectively, 60% and 70% completed.
