Ice class requirements effective at Vyborg and Vysotsk ports
In connection with the formation in the waters of Big Port St. Petersburg of the early stages of ice, cold temperatures in the water areas of the ports of Vyborg and Vysotsk, some ice class restrictions go into effect as from midnight of 24 December 2012. The orders signed by the harbormasters were published by the Authority of Big Port St. Petersburg.
From the date, the tug / barge units are not allowed to sail in the ice (Port of Vyborg).
Vessels without ice class hulls and tug-and-barge units (Port of Vysotsk) are allowed to sail in the harbors only with icebreaker assistance. The ice-class ships (any ice class) can sail to / from the ports independently (with approval and recommendations of icebreaker operator) or can request for icebreaker escort.
The companies operating piers, regardless of form of ownership or lease agreements should prepare the waterfront before arrival / departure of a ship – to cut a path in the berthing water area utilizing harbor tugs or icebreakers.
